Restarting the SD Free Press, Summer 2005 Issue
Hello there. We are restarting the San Diego Free Press after a long vacation in which we were up to our necks in other kinds of media. There is a ton of news of critical importance happening here in San Diego on a daily basis, and we're going to try to take our media making efforts out of the ether and back into the physical realm. We also plan to have lots of content in the new Free Press en español, since we have been doing serious work on translation for our website.

We're currently planning on covering the following topics in the next issue of the Free Press:

The MinuteMen
Pablo Paredes and War Resisters
Homelessness in San Diego
Student Movements - Budget Cuts and Living Wage
The Border, borderHack

We're hoping to have stories on:

CAFTA
Counter Inaugural Action Summary

The deadlines for this issue, which we're trying to get out asap to get back on our feet is:

Submissions by May 15, 2005
Ads by May 20, 2005
Send to the printers on May 31, 2005

The San Diego Free Press is a project of San Diego Indymedia, http://sandiego.indymedia.org .

Greetings:

My name is Joe Weidner and I am a writer, photographer and desingner in Columbus. I am the full time editor of a 50,000 circulation newpaper going to members of the state's largest public employee union.

I would like to offer the SF Free Press a feature I call “Postcard From Ohio”. I started this last year as a form of “art therapy” to cope with our state’s “battle ground” craziness during the election and it amused many of my friends. I am not looking for compensation, I would be flattered to be included in your magaizine. Please send me an e-mail address so I can send you the art for your review.

I have a souvenir postcard from the Bush coronation. It features the White House on the front with the legend “Welcome to Fantasy Land”, and a picture of Bush on the back with his post-election quote “I am the President of everybody”

I also designed a special “Weapons of Mass Destruction” commemorative first-class postage stamp for the card.

In addition, I have designed a John Ashcroft “Rights? I’ll tell you what your rights are!” and an Alberto Gonzales “What’s a little torture between friends?” postage stamp for use on future cards.

Hope to hear from you prior to your publication deadline.

In solidarity,

Joe Weidner
